Venkatagiri an artisan cluster situated in the District of Nellore in Andhra Pradesh which was under the dynasty of Venkatagiri Rajas. Amongst the cotton sarees, the most famous are the Venkatagiri sarees/Rajamatha sarees.
Finely spun cottons of 100s and 120s counts was used for the warp and weft. A simple gold border was woven on the edge while the pallou was richely brocaded with motives worked in gold, combined with thicker colored yarns worked in Jamdani technique. |
